I spent some time painting with my near 10 year old bff. Her 10th birthday is on January 13th. She is sunshine. And because of her sunshine I’ve never been happier to have light reactive glasses.
She said sort of out of nowhere “I want to buy one of your paintings. I really like the cherry flower ones.” She said she got a lot of money (for a 10 year old) for Christmas/ her birthday and that’s what she wants to do with it. Of course I said I would give her one. Then she said she thinks it’s wrong that her parents don’t buy my art.
That was touching but 5 minutes later I tried to introduce the idea that I might have to move. She tells me I can’t move. Why would i want to move? I tell her sometimes you have to move even though you don’t want to. And this is when my glasses having gone dark comes in. Well if you move I’ll run away and come live with you.
Tears.
The thought of leaving her guts me.
I’m scared. I have to file an answer to the eviction papers I received taped on my door 9 days ago tomorrow. I’m afraid to buy food. I’m writing two days into the new year to thank all of you who have donated to Kate’s fundraiser. I would like to thank my friends who donated without knowing Kate because they trust me (thank you for this trust!) and i would like to super thank all of Kate’s friends who have dug deep into their pockets and given all they could. You make my world more hopeful.
I had set $1000 as the target goal to get Kate on her feet so she could look for a lawyer. We smashed that target and this means so very much to Kate. Kate is now looking for a lawyer but it’s the holidays and it will take a while.
I would like to tell you that Kate has already set aside some of the money she will need for a retainer. Not a penny that you gave her has gone to waste. This is my promise to you.
She is now spending the holidays without her mom for the first time in her life, and it’s grim and sad and difficult. If you can show her some love, please do. She could very much use it. Everything you donate will be used to keep her fed and warm and to get her a lawyer.
